What is the 5x1000 and how can it support sanctuaries like ours?

Every year, millions of Italians have the power to support a cause they believe in — without spending an extra cent.

It's called 5x1000 (five per mille) and it could be the most important gesture you make for animals this year.

Let's find out what it's all about.

📌 What exactly is 5x1000?

The 5x1000 is a portion of your income tax (IRPEF) that the Italian state allows you to allocate to a non-profit organization registered in the official lists — such as an animal sanctuary, a cultural association, or a scientific research body.

It's not an additional donation: you are simply deciding yourself where 0.5% of the taxes you would pay anyway will go. Instead of leaving it to the State, you can direct it towards a project you care about.

✅ It costs you nothing

  • ✅ It doesn't change the amount of your refund
  • ✅ It doesn't increase the taxes you have to pay
  • ✅ Simply, you choose where to give those funds

✍️ How do you do it?

You'll find the section dedicated to the 5x1000 in your tax form (730, CU or Modello Redditi).

There you just need to:

  1. Sign in the space dedicated to “Support for Third Sector entities”

  2. Write the tax code of the entity you want to support

🐮 Why it's crucial for animal sanctuaries

Sanctuaries like Sotto la Panca survive thanks to small, consistent acts of kindness. The 5x1000 helps us to:

  • Buy food and straw for cows, goats, lambs, pigs, and chickens
  • Cover the costs of surgeries, vaccines, and veterinary care
  • Maintain secure fences and protected shelters
  • Rescue abandoned or seized animals
  • Ensure lifelong care for beings who have already suffered enough

We do not receive public funds or profit from our activities: this is why the 5x1000 is one of the most stable resources for carrying out our work throughout the year.

🔄 Is it the same as a donation?

Not exactly.

A regular donation comes directly out of your wallet.

The 5x1000, on the other hand, is public money that you are already paying in taxes — you can simply decide who to allocate it to.

You can also do both: for example, a single donation in case of emergency, and the 5x1000 to support our long-term commitments.

🧑💼 Who can allocate the 5x1000?

All residents in Italy who pay IRPEF (personal income tax). Specifically:

  • Employees
  • Pensioners
  • Self-employed workers
  • VAT number holders or businesses

Even if you don't have to submit a full tax return, you can still allocate the 5x1000 by filling out a simplified form and submitting it to a CAF or post office.

😕 Why do so many people ignore it?

Because many don't even know they have this power.

According to Il Sole 24 Ore, every year almost 500 million euros in potential 5x1000 funds are not allocated — they get lost in bureaucracy instead of being used to fund compassion.

Yet, it only takes a few seconds.

A single signature can feed a calf, save a goat, or build a safe shelter.

❤️ Why choose Sotto la Panca?

Because every euro helps give animals a second chance.

We are a registered non-profit organization with a clear mission:

to rescue, rehabilitate, and protect animals who have escaped slaughter, abandonment, or abuse.

Every signature means:

  • A stable source for planning veterinary care, food, and shelter
  • More animals saved from cruelty
  • A community that chooses kindness — even through taxes

If you are already part of our story, the 5x1000 is the most powerful gesture you can make to help it continue, year after year.
